In the 70s when i was a boy, the movie The Bermuda Triangle was broadcast on network TV. Everyone at Bethel Christian School was talking about it and I so desperately wanted to see it, but I missed it on account of church or some other family obligation.
I really believed the movie would reveal some fascinating tidbit about aliens, but when I returned to school the following Monday, it turned out just to be some dumb 'ol mystery on a boat.

We are products of popular culture, and that’s reflected in our anticipations and disappointments. I can’t attend a church service without hearing echoes of these two movie clips. (That’s not because they are particularly insightful, but because I consumed them at an age when my mind was developing a religious sensibility.)

Piers Morgan on Miley Cyrus
Transcript excerpt from Piers Morgan on CNN August 29, 2013:
It's funny actually that the reality is we live in a social media world now where she attracted more tweets I believe in that period that she performed in the VMA's than almost anything this year... So, whether you and I take her this to the side, a dismissive view of the news value of this... the reality is America is buzzing with opinion about all of them.

If you can't say something Intelligent, say something provocative. Morgan could have said the same thing about a kidnapping or a murder. The difference here of course is that Morgan is in showbiz just like Miley and he would say you can’t seriously compare showbiz with mayhem.
And he would be right. Which makes his logic all the more troubling.
I don’t expect Morgan to take a moral stand on anything unless it makes someone angry. He knows his show is now surviving because he’s found a provocative niche, so nearly every evening must widen that niche just a bit so a few more viewers can fall into righteous indignation and create a little more buzz for him.
