It's the same way after every tragedy:
• We're shocked.
• We hang our heads.
• Details trickle in, some right, some wrong.
• We look for a reason; we make one up if we can't find one, or if we don't like the one we're given.
• We promise not to be beaten; we pledge and sing and go to ball games because you can't keep the American spirit down.
• We sell magazines and airtime.and launch new careers
• and say "Make no mistake, we will track down those responsible,"
• and we catch some bad guys
• and tell ourselves we've sent a strong message
• and we will prevent it from happening again
• and move along to other news of the day.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

I sympathize with all the folks who didn't get to finish the Boston Marathon, and am glad some later crossed the finish line, but it was just a race.
How about we stow the stoic perseverance, stop exploiting each other to sell news, and solve a few problems.
