Sometimes the world makes sense (we've been doing it since kindergarten).

c0 Vintage photo of children praying in schoolFreedom of religion is not freedom from religion (which is like asking the table next to you at a restaurant to avoid salt because you're on a low-salt diet).

Supreme Court rules that government meetings can include opening prayer without running afoul of Constitution >

At some point we need to realize that enforcement of decency and respect preserves something vital for prosperity and happiness, whether that stems from a ruler slap or a prayer (metaphorically speaking). You don't need both, but you can't get rid of both, either.

Bad things are unpreventable when you discard governors on human behavior, whether because they are inconvenient, unpopular, or silly.

(Almost) no one wants a world where abortion is the predominate form of birth control, or NAMBLA legislates morality, or there's a gun in every nightstand.

We all have to make compromises that sometimes just make others happy.

We've been doing that since kindergarten. Whatever possessed us to think we could stop as adults?

Allen Ginsberg, Beat Generation icon and author of Howl, was a member of NAMBLA, presumably finding the most offensive alliance he could to make a point, but who knows, talented people can be pretty messed up. There's no freedom so dear that we can't find a better metaphor to defend it.

c0 Clarence talks to George after he pulls him out of the water. George is suddenly able to hear with an ear that's been deaf since a childhood accident. George says to Clarence, "Say something else in that ear." Clarence replies, "Sure. You can hear out of it."
It never hurts to start optimistic. You can always change your mind later.
