Hearing Something Old for the First Time

c0 A picture of limes and coconuts.Sometimes you discover an older song you never heard before. This is especially delightful when you already like the singer and thought you'd heard everything there was to hear. It's like finding a $20 bill in an old pair of jeans. And for a few minutes, you are back then, and there, when that singer was as inescapable on TV, radio, and round water coolers.[1]

This happened to me recently
when I encountered "Gotta Get Up" by Harry Nilsson. Maybe it will be new to you, too.

Nilsson is of course more famous for "Everybody's Talkin'" (theme from Midnight Cowboy) and "Coconut" (as in, "put the lime in")...

Water coolers were before my time. They served the same purpose as drinking fountains today, but unlike drinking fountains were locations for socializing. They've returned in some offices, essentially
gargantuan bottled water stations, but they're not the gossip hubs from yesteryear.
